Licence terms and refunds

The terms on which you may use Wheelhouse, and how to get your money back. Last updated 14 September 2026.

In short: try Wheelhouse free for 14 days. If you buy it, you pay once per developer, you keep it for good, and every future version is included. If it is not right for you, ask for a refund within 30 days of buying and you get your money back in full.

Who these terms are between

Wheelhouse is published by Michael Coombs ("we", "us"). These terms are between us and you, the person or organisation using Wheelhouse. If you buy for an organisation, you confirm you are allowed to accept these terms on its behalf, and "you" means the organisation.

Purchases are sold through Stripe, which acts as the seller of record: Stripe takes the payment, charges any VAT or sales tax, issues your receipt and handles billing questions, under its own terms shown at checkout. The licence to use Wheelhouse is granted by us, on these terms.

The free trial

Each developer may use Wheelhouse, with every feature, free for 14 days from the day it first runs on their computer. The trial is for deciding whether to buy; please do not reinstall, change machine identity or use other means to extend it. When it ends, the Wheelhouse panel and its in-process tools stop until a licence key is entered. Nothing else about Visual Studio or Claude Code is affected.

What a licence gives you

  • Per developer. Each seat is for one person. That person may use Wheelhouse on up to 2 computers at a time, for example a desktop and a laptop.
  • Perpetual. The licence does not expire and there is nothing further to pay.
  • Every future version. Updates and new versions of Wheelhouse are included, for as long as we publish them.
  • For any lawful work, personal or commercial.
  • Team purchases. A purchase of several seats comes with one key, to share with the developers it covers, and a private page for managing it. When someone leaves, or a computer is retired, you may free their seat and give it to someone else. Seats move between people; they are not for several people at once.

The licence check

Wheelhouse confirms its trial or licence with this site when Visual Studio starts and every few hours. A licensed computer keeps working for 30 days without reaching the site, and a computer that has not been seen for 90 days stops counting against its seat. What the check sends is described in the privacy policy. If this site is ever unavailable for longer than that, Wheelhouse will not lock out a paying customer because of it: we will publish a version that works without the check.

What you may not do

  • Share a key with more developers, or use it on more computers, than its seats cover.
  • Remove, bypass or interfere with the licence check or the trial, or help anyone else to.
  • Sell, rent or sublicense keys, or pass on a key other than within the organisation that bought it.
  • Redistribute modified copies of Wheelhouse.

Claude Code and Visual Studio are separate

Wheelhouse works with Claude Code and with Visual Studio, but a Wheelhouse licence includes neither. You need your own Visual Studio licence, and your own Claude subscription or Anthropic API account, used under those companies' terms and paid for separately. Wheelhouse is an independent product, not made or endorsed by Anthropic or Microsoft, and we cannot promise how their products will change. If a change of theirs stops Wheelhouse working, we will try to fix it in an update, but cannot guarantee to.

Refunds

If you are not happy with Wheelhouse, you can have a full refund within 30 days of buying it, for any reason. Please try it during the free trial first; the 30 days are there in case it still turns out not to suit you.

  • How to ask. Use the contact form or email wheelhouse@mountainstar.co.uk, from or mentioning the email address you bought with. You do not have to give a reason.
  • How it is paid. Refunds are made through Stripe, to the card or account you paid with, usually within 5 to 10 working days depending on your bank.
  • What happens to the key. A refunded licence is revoked: its key stops working, and the computers using it return to the state they would be in after the trial.
  • Teams that bought too many seats. Within the 30 days, we can refund the seats you do not need and issue a replacement key for the rest.
  • After 30 days, refunds are at our discretion, and we will always consider a fair request, for example if Wheelhouse has stopped working for you and we cannot fix it.

Stripe may also issue a refund itself, for instance while resolving a dispute, and a licence refunded that way is revoked in the same way. We may also revoke a licence whose payment is reversed by a chargeback.

Your legal rights

Nothing in these terms limits rights you have by law that cannot be excluded. If you are a consumer in the UK or the EU, that includes the right to digital content that is as described, of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose, and remedies if it is not. The 30-day refund above is in addition to those rights.

Warranty and liability

Wheelhouse is a development tool that makes changes to code, projects and files at the direction of you and of Claude Code. Keep your work in source control and review changes before you rely on them. Apart from the rights described above, Wheelhouse is provided as it is, without any other promise that it will be free of errors or suit a particular purpose.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss of data, profit, business or opportunity, or for any indirect loss, arising from using Wheelhouse, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid for your licence. This does not limit liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law.

Ending a licence

We may revoke a licence that has been refunded or charged back, or that is used in serious or repeated breach of these terms, after telling you why and, where the breach can be put right, giving you the chance to do so. You may stop using Wheelhouse at any time.

Changes and governing law

We may update these terms, for example to describe new features, and will post the new version on this page. A change will not take away anything you have already paid for: the terms in force when you bought your licence continue to apply to it unless you agree otherwise. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you are a consumer, you may also rely on the law, and bring proceedings in the courts, of the country where you live.
